ENDPOVERTY2015 ECARD
Dear campaigner,
We are writing to you about the 2 billion poor who live on less than $2 (about €1.35) a day. In today’s world, this is simply unacceptable as the core issue is not a lack of resources. What is lacking is the political will.
“End poverty by 2015” is the historic promise our leaders made at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000, unanimously agreeing to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015.
Now it is time to deliver. On 18 June, during the Spanish Presidency of the EU Council, European leaders will meet to decide and agree upon on the European position. This will be formally presented at the United Nations Summit in New York on 20-22 September, the occasion for world leaders to meet ten years after their initial signing of the Millennium Development Goals.
Make them deliver! Take action! Write to your elected leader, with copy to the current President of the EU Council, José Luis Rodrìguez Zapatero, asking him/her to outline binding deadlines to increase aid and improve its effectiveness.

SG MDG REPORT - KEEPING THE PROMISE
“We must not fail the billions who look to the international community to fulfill the promise of the Millennium Declaration for a better world. Let us meet in September to keep the promise.”
With only five years left until the 2015 deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called on world leaders to attend a summit in New York on 20-22 September 2010 to boost progress towards the MDGs.
Read the Secretary-General´s report, "Keeping the Promise", which serves as the basis for Member States´ deliberations on an action-oriented outcome document for the Summit. It identifies successes and gaps, and lays out an agenda for 2010-2015. "Our world possesses the knowledge and resources to achieve the MDGs," Mr. Ban says in the report. Falling short of the Goals "would be an unacceptable failure, moral and practical."

CARTOONS
Conceived by the French cartoonist Plantu, ‘Cartooning for Peace’ is an initiative born on 16 October 2006 at UN Headquarters in New York. Twelve of the best known political cartoonists from all over the world participated in a two-day conference to help us ‘unlearn intolerance’. A movement was born.

8 GOALS FOR AFRICA CAMPAIGN
The ‘8 GOALS FOR AFRICA’ song is part of an awareness and advocacy campaign developed by the United Nations System in South Africa on the 8 MDGs.
End poverty by 2015 is the historic promise 189 world leaders made at the UN Millennium Summit in 2000 when they signed up to the Millennium Declaration and agreed to meet the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015. The MDGs are an eight-point road map with measurable targets and clear deadlines for improving the lives of the world´s poorest people. Ten years later our leaders are meeting again on 20 September in New York to review the progress, it is up to us to make sure world leaders keep their promise.
